During the summer months, on Saturdays, all the fountains of the Chateau Versailles are turned on for a spectacular display of water and light, which culminate in a fireworks display once night has fallen. These fountains are idle during the year.
I was at Versailles last Saturday, along with friends, and thousands upon thousands of people who had made the journey from all over. Versailles itself was a nightmare of cars, but in the end we managed to find a spot. Ambling through the grounds with a map, following one spectacular fountain display after another, we welcomed the darkness and the sudden and loud burst of light.
